Valiant Cross Academy and Troy University-Montgomery partnered to bring scholars a new learning experience in an outdoor classroom by creating a School Garden in March 2017. Scholars began their outdoor classroom endeavors with the installation of a five-bed milk crate garden to learn how to grow vegetables. They were then lead through eight weeks of gardening and nutrition lessons by Mrs. Breanna Gentry to enhance their knowledge of gardening techniques and wellness. Dr. Sharon Everhardt, Jonathan Cellon, and Dr. Brenda Gill applied for a USDA Specialty Crop Grant to fund the project.

In 2018, scholars will expand their project to include a larger garden and a farm stand where they will learn about business operations and entrepreneurship. The farm stand will be open to the public on Montgomery and Wilkinson St. in downtown Montgomery in late Spring 2018.
